Abstract

Peritoneal encapsulation is a rare congenital malformation in which an accessory peritoneal membrane develops abnormally, partially or totally containing the small intestine. Itis considered an underdiagnosed, undertreated pathology with a low incidence, which is usually asymptomatic, but can manifest with intestinal obstruction and its treatment is surgical. The incidence reported in the world is low, and this is the first case reported in South America.
