Abstract

he medial olivocochlear bundle is a portion of the efferent auditory pathway that originates in the superior olivary complex and innervates the outer hair cells of the cochlea. This bundle has the capacity to reflexively inhibit the contractions of these cells, thereby reducing the gain of cochlear amplification. This article consists of a literature review on the assessment of the medial olivocochlear bundle in humans using otoacoustic emissions. Currently, there is no gold standard technique for its evaluation, which limits its implementation in clinical settings.
