Abstract

Introduction: Scientific production (SP) increased considerably during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the need to address and reduce the adverse effects caused in different areas of health.

Objective: To know the scientific production on COVID-19 of RENACYT researchers in health, at a Peruvian university.

Materials and methods: This was a scientometric study and the unit of analysis was the scientific articles on COVID-19 published in Scopus by RENACYT researchers. The artificial intelligence “RAYYAN” was used to discriminate the studies and they were analyzed through three dimensions: profile of RENACYT researchers, characteristics of scientific articles on COVID-19 and metadata of the publications.

Results: 23 articles on COVID-19 from 42 RENACYT researchers were identified, highlighting that the majority were teachers (95.2%) with a PhD degree (95.6%). The faculty with the most researchers was Pharmacy and Biochemistry (40.5%), while Dentistry led in publications (34.8%). Observational studies (69.6%) and publications in Spanish (52.2%) predominated. The articles, published between 2020 and 2024 in 18 journals from different countries, addressed areas such as psychological and social impact, health and biosecurity, disease management and treatment, education and technology. The main findings included the creation of medical devices, antiviral treatments and educational programs with AI.

Conclusions: The scientometric analysis showed that the RENACYT researchers’ CP on COVID-19 was active and diverse, with a preference for observational studies and publications in Q4 journals.
