Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) is a rare condition that accounts for 1% of all kidney infections.
The clinical presentation does not differ from other common urological pathologies. Certain microorganisms tend to predispose to its generation, although this relationship. Invasion of the renal parenchyma by lipid-laden macrophages, known as xanthoma cells, causing a characteristic yellowish appearance is unclear. Is presented a rare case of an 82-yearold woman with a history of urinary tract infection (UTI). She consulted for abdominal pain and fever. Computed tomography (CT) showed chronic hydronephrosis in the left kidney associated with multiple stones compatible with PXG associated with pulmonary consolidation. A nephrostomy was performed without success, so a nephrectomy was performed with good results.
