Keywords:
tuberculosis, HIV, diabetes mellitus, adherenceAbstract
Introduction: Optimal immune status is essential to combat tuberculosis; and the opposite condition is found in patients with comorbidities, such as HIV and DM2 (type 2 diabetes mellitus) which have increased their incidence in recent years.
Methods: Observational analytical retrospective cohort study. The study population was made up of 12 districts of Downtown Lima, with a sample size of 400 patients who started treatment between 2016 and 2017.
Results: HIV was comorbithe only factor predisposing to poor treatment adherence in the analysis: adjusted relative risk (RRa): 0.37; CI: 0.19-0.73, but not DM (RRa: 1.16, 95% CI: 0.70-1.91).
Conclusion: There is an association between poor adherence to tuberculosis treatment and HIV. Regarding diabetes, despite being a chronic disease with a high incidence in recent years which affects various stages of life, it was not found to be associated with poor adherence to tuberculosis treatment, as mentioned in other studies.
