Abstract

To describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of adults diagnosed with COVID-19 during the year 2021 in Rosario department, Santa Fe, Argentina.

Descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional and retrospective study. Data was collected from the official records of Santa Fe Health Ministry.

A total of 111,095 cases were registered. Of those, 69.4% were confirmed between April and July, 51.4% were women and 48.6% men. The average age was 42.82 years (SD = 15.94). A total of 2,810 patients were admitted, 53.8% male and 46.2% female. Also 63.8% were over 60 years. Of the hospitalized patients, 23.27% were referred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 56% were male. Of the hospitalized patients, 93.1% presented at least one comorbidity and 91.4% of those admitted to the ICU. There were 1,962 deaths, 56.8% were male and 74.6% over 60 years of age.

The largest number of confirmed cases occurred in the autumn-winter season. There was a predominance of women and adults under 60 years. Men over 60 years and those with associated comorbidity predominated in the cases of severity and death.
